Rudy's family comes from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was raised in a Christian home. Both his father and maternal grandfather were Baptist ministers. His family is also incredibly musical and has always been involved in church music programs.
Rudy and his wife Fran were married in San Diego, California in 1982. Fran and her family are from San Diego.
Rudy and Fran currently reside in San Diego, California and attend Parkway Hills Church of the Nazarene. Previously, they lived in Sparks, Nevada, and their church membership remains with Sparks First Church of the Nazarene, which is under the leadership of Rev. Herb Ireland.
Rudy is an ordained elder and registered song evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene. He was ordained an elder in 2000. He graduated from Nazarene Bible College (Colorado Springs, CO) in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Church Music.
Rudy played the trumpet during childhood, but it wasn't until 1988 that he began to play again on a regular basis. Between 1990 and 1994, Rudy studied trumpet with Mark Lord (http://www.showgigs.com) in Reno. In Colorado Springs, Rudy studied under David Zuerker, principal trumpet player for the Colorado Springs Symphony and Colorado Springs First Presbyterian Church. Rudy is proficient in the trumpet, flugelhorn, and piccolo trumpet. Currently, he is experimenting with the Electronic Valve Instrument (EVI), which he has began to incorporate into the ministry's program.
